Mondial 2018: l'équipe de Suisse "ne mérite pas un autre sort" selon Vladimir Petkovic

Le sélectionneur de l'équipe de Suisse revient sur la rencontre Portugal-Suisse où la Suisse a perdu 2-0. Les Suisses auraient dû agir plutôt que réagir durant ce match de qualification à la Coupe du monde 2018. Ils devront donc jouer les barrages au mois de novembre.

Le sélectionneur a souligné l'importance du premier but, malheureux et arrivé au mauvais moment.

"Nous ne méritions pas un autre sort !" Vladimir Petkovic a le mérite de la franchise. A ses yeux, l'équipe de Suisse est restée très loin du compte à Lisbonne.

"Nous avons été trop passifs en début de rencontre. Le courage a manqué, dit-il. Notre première demi-heure fut de bonne facture. Mais nous aurions dû faire plus. Nous aurions dû agir. J'ai le sentiment que nous avons fait que réagir..."

Le sélectionneur souligne, bien sûr, l'importance du premier but. "Il est malheureux. Il tombe, surtout, au mauvais moment, lâche-t-il. Si nous avions regagné la pause sur le score de 0-0, la donne n'aurait plus été la même. Mais il a manqué trois minutes."

"Il convient désormais d'analyser cette rencontre. Comprendre pourquoi nous avons été incapables de montrer notre vrai visage, porusuit-il. Il faut l'oublier aussi très vite pour basculer sur les barrage. Je n'ai pas encore réfléchi sur nos éventuels futurs adversaires. Je dois avouer que je n'ai pris connaissance de leur nom qu'à l'issue de ce match. Nous étions convaincus de pouvoir nous qualifier directement pour la Russie. L'Irlande du Nord, l'Eire, la Suède et la Grèce sont des équipes qui me semblent bien armées sur le plan athlétique. La seule préférence que je peux avancer ce soir, c'est de pouvoir disputer le match retour à domicile." Au Parc Saint-Jacques de Bâle plus précisément.

Enfin, le coach national n'a pas tenu répondre à la question de savoir si ce match de Lisbonne a démontré que le seul joueur irremplaçable dans sa sélection est Valon Behrami, absent justement de cette finalissima. Mais le fait qu'elle soit posée en ces termes ne l'a pas déplu. Elle traduit bien une évidence. "J'espère que Valon sera d'attaque pour ce barrage", glisse-t-il.
