Bencic convainc pour se hisser au troisième tour de l’US Open

La Saint-Galloise s’est débarrassée d’Andrea Petkovic à Flushing Meadows.

L’air de New York fait décidément du bien à Belinda Bencic. La Saint-Galloise s’est qualifiée pour le troisième tour de l’US Open, à l’issue d’une prestation convaincante face à l’Allemande Andrea Petkovic (6-3 6-2).

L’ancienne top-10, retombée au 26e rang mondial après moult pépins physiques, n’avait plus gagné deux matches de suite depuis presque trois mois, soit depuis le tournoi de Bois-le-Duc. Autant dire une éternité pour une joueuse aussi ambitieuse.

Mais enfin débarrassée de ses douleurs au poignet gauche – sa dernière blessure en date –, Belinda Bencic se remet gentiment à gagner. Et comme par hasard, c’est à l’US Open qu’elle y parvient, sur les courts de son plus grand exploit en Grand Chelem jusqu’ici (quart de finale en 2014).
